MEOW app for young people

The MEOW app is for young people to monitor their emotional wellbeing. It has been designed in a way that schools can potentially make use of this app to engage in school wide monitoring of mental health of students.

The MEOW app is completly FREE on the app store.

There are no hidden costs or in-app purchases.

To effectively use the MEOW app the young person must have basic reading proficiency.

So the MEOW app is suitable for most young people aged 7 years and above.

The data collected by the MEOW app is PRIVATE to the user. The MEOW app only stores data on the local device. There is no connection to external servers. What this means is that your data is private to you only. You are able to share your data with others if you wish (e.g., school admin or mental health practitioner), but that is for you to decide, and you must email that data to them yourself (via email data functionality in the app settings).

See the MEOW app privacy policy page.

The emotional wellbeing measure used in the app is the Brief Emotional Experience Scale (BEES) that is backed by years of research. From that research it is estimated that at any one point in time approximately 15% of young people experience 'low' emotional wellbeing, 40% experience 'moderate' wellbeing, and 45% experience 'high' wellbeing.

A core philosophy of the MEOW app is to treat emotional wellbeing as something that is dynamic in nature. We all have our good and bad days. To gain a more accurate understanding of a person's wellbeing, it makes sense to take more of a longitduinal approach to measurement. This is what the MEOW app does.

The MEOW app is primarily designed to be used for a weekly check in, however in the settings the time period can be adjusted to be shorter if desired (e.g., every few days, or every day). The MEOW app also has potential to be used by young people enagaging with mental health services as part of a therapeutic process.

There is a companion app for the MEOW app that can be used by schools or mental health services to collate and summarise data from multiple users of the MEOW app.

See the MEOW app FAQ.
